cut low

I picked out this bouquet at my florist last week—a moody, sculptural mix of deep plum calla lilies, green cymbidium orchids, and tiny white waxflowers. It felt like a still life in motion, each stem distinct but somehow in rhythm with the others.

These are the kinds of arrangements I gravitate toward. Not overly precious or symmetrical, but considered. I like when a bouquet has contrast—glossy and matte textures, something dark that anchors the color story, something open and unruly that softens it.

When I got home, I cut the stems low and placed them in a squat glass vase on the hallway table. The light caught the edges of the lilies in the afternoon and made the whole thing feel cinematic. I didn’t need to style much else—just the flowers, and a clean surface.

There’s something about having fresh flowers in the house that shifts the energy. I placed the arrangement on the hallway table—simple, no fuss—and it immediately made the space feel more intentional. Not just styled, but lived in. Like someone cared enough to bring something beautiful home.
