even better

It takes time, and sometimes that’s good. Even better.

When I first started framing out what’s now the office and guest bedroom, I had an idea I couldn’t quite articulate. This space was once one large bedroom with a big walk-in closet, but I wanted my primary suite to face the backyard instead. So I started sketching on printer paper until something finally clicked.

That moment turned into a plan for a guest bedroom suite, an office, and a library bar. I brought on an architect to consult, and we decided to add transoms to keep light flowing through the new layout. We chose french doors so the space could breathe. Now, the light from those rooms connects with the skylight above the staircase, and it’s one of my favorite places in the house to sit and just be.

The floral wallpaper that finally went up in this room sat on my shelf for almost two years. It was a mix of timing, budget, and finding someone willing to take on a Bronx project. (More on that another time.) But when everything finally lined up, it came together beautifully.

The walls here hold the work of many hands and a lot of patience. I’m learning that the best part of creating something lasting is letting it take the time it needs.

More soon,

-L
